Aim: developing young people’s confidence, critical thinking and sense of community through:

How: A series of 2-3 hour training sessions (minimum 4 sessions) including media techniques taught by media experts and youth activists to get heard on things that matter to participants. Both programme forms end with the filming of either a “Big Debate” or “Our Stories” where participants consolidate learning and bring it all together in a fun, confidence building finale.

Aim: Designing and prototyping participant solutions to social problems

Our goal is to get your clients, service users, young people and/or community members directly involved in creating new responses to specific issues.

How: Like a music or poetry jam, but informed by design theory, jams bring people together to share ideas, skills and tools. Over 48 hours, participants are guided through a creative but strategic process: learning new things, improving skills, bouncing ideas off one another to co-create with their peers. The key outcome is to create ideas – not fully formed, but informed – that can then be built upon.

Supporting positive change-makers

Aim: This one day training programme provides training on leadership, communication and activism, to support positive change and networking/peer learning.

How: Creating a safe, inspirational space in which peer-to-peer learning is carefully facilitated by experts in change-making and engagement, the day is shaped by participant needs. This may involve support on public speaking, reflecting on activist aims and methods, understanding how to make impact, and can include listening and challenging sessions. We have run ActUpandChange with former violent activists as guest facilitators, who underscore the greater impact of positive change over violence and negativity

Al Qaeda: Terrorist group founded in 1988 by Osama Bin Laden, which committed the 9/11 attacks.
